Rebuilding Lives by Supporting Breast Cancer Survivors with Career and Health Goals project

(№ 2023-1-BG01-KA210-ADU-000167184), co-funded by the European Union,  main objective is to empower breast cancer survivors aged 30 – 55 years old by promoting their physical and mental health, developing their skills, and building their resilience, to support their successful integration in to the society and transition into the labor market. The project aims to develop a comprehensive training program that can support breast cancer survivors (women entered recently into a remission after a breast cancer) towards their successful reintegration into society and the labour market and improve their physical and mental health. The specific objectives of the Rebuilding Lives of Breast Cancer Survivors are as follow:

SO1. To conduct a research on the experiences of women in remission after breast cancer aiming to disseminate the challenges that women in remission after breast cancer face and how they could be supported;

SO2. To develop, evaluate and disseminate a training program for breast cancer survivors 1) for physical and mental health to improve their overall well-being and 2) for skills and competencies acquisition relevant to the current labour market aiming to support their integration into the society;

SO3. To develop and disseminate online resources and tools for breast cancer survivors to facilitate rebuilding their lives and integration into the society;

SO4. To create a network of organisations working towards supporting the integration of breast cancer survivors in the society aiming and to promote their employment and career development.

Our mission: Helping each and every woman

The project target group is very specific - women aged 30 - 55 years old, breast cancer survivors. These women have undergone medical treatments and have been dealing with physical and mental health challenges that require ongoing support. They are facing challenges to have normal live and to be back to their everyday activities. They are facing difficulties in finding or returning to work, either due to their health or other factors such as a lack of relevant skills or experience.

The project team aims to provide these women with the skills, resources, and support they need to successfully transition back into the labor market, as well as to improve their physical and mental health and well-being.

The project will be particularly beneficial for those who are experiencing financial difficulties, lack of social support, and other challenges associated with cancer treatment and recovery.

The research is focused on the challenges that breast cancer survivors face. By understanding the specific needs of the group, the project develops interventions and activities that are tailored to their needs and support their successful integration into society and the labor market.

By identifying the specific needs of breast cancer survivors the project team gained a better understanding of the challenges that breast cancer survivors face when trying to reintegrate into society and the labor market. The project activities are tailored to address the specific needs of this group.

By building awareness and support based on the research the project tackles stigma and discrimination, and encourage greater understanding and support for this specific target group.

Our Partners

The foundation's mission is to help early detection of breast cancer and to reach women diagnosed with breast cancer by providing free of charge information, psychological, emotional and practical support. It is of the utmost importance for us that women with breast cancer and their loved ones maintain their quality of life and continue to be successful and full-fledged part of the society.

Along with that the foundation' team is seeking for ways to support the breast cancer survivors in their integration in the society once they are i remission. The team is conducting numerous initiatives in the whole country, in backwards communities, travelling and organising different events so that they could reach people with fewer opportunities and socio-economic challenges.

The foundation is offering psychological, emotional and practical support to women with breast cancer. The foundation is working towards qualitative changes in the patients environment and of the attitude of the society towards women passing through this diagnose. Based on the feedbacks of the patients and the observation of the foundation team currently one of the main direction of development is finding ways to support breast cancer survivors especially in maintain physical and mental health and gaining skills and knowledge needed for the labour market.

Democritus University of Thrace

Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) was established in July 1973 and started operating during the academic year 1974-1975. It was named "Democritus" in honor of the ancient Greek philosopher Democritus, who hailed from the town of Abdera in Thrace. The University is currently operating eight

Faculties and nineteen Schools in four cities of Thrace - eight in Komotini, five in Xanthi, four inAlexandroupolis and two in Orestiada. Overall, more than 620 permanent academics are teaching and more than 15.000 students are studying at DUTH at undergraduate and post-graduate level. As a Higher Education Institution, DUTH is a Public Entity with complete autonomy that is supervised and funded by the State through the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs. One of the Schools of the DUTH is the School of Physical Education and Sports Science (SPESS). SPESS has nowadays more than 52 permanent academics and more than 1.500 students.

The mission of the SPESS encompasses the following main objectives:

to cultivate and promote the Science of Physical Education and Sport through academic and applied teaching and research.

to provide its graduates with adequate knowledge that will ensure their integrated proficiency for their scientific and professional career

to contribute to the development of sports in Greece and at the same time to cultivate and propagate the athletic ideal all over Greece.

to raise public awareness regarding the importance of physical education as a crucial factor contributing to the improvement of their standard.
